Ten members of the Pokanoket Tribe presented their history and traditions to both third grade classes at the Rockwell Elementary School in Bristol, RI, on June 12, 2019, as part of a series sponsored by the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. Sagamore William Guy spoke about Princess Redwing, the last female Pokanoket Chief, before Running Deer and Rainbow Heart showed the students turtle shells and other artifacts that they brought with them. Little Feather then led the group in a traditional Pokanoket song and students eagerly participated in a dance to the tribal drum. Click here for a 27-minute video of the event.
