Associate Professor of History at Brown University Linford D. Fisher gave a one-hour talk about the rise and fall of Indian slavery in the Atlantic World at Smith’s Castle in North Kingston, RI. Fisher is leading a team of scholars in the creation of the Database of Indigenous Slavery in the Americans (DISA). In addition to creating this important database, Fisher is completing a book entitled Atlantic Passages: The Rise and Fall of Native Slavery in the Atlantic World, which will be published by Oxford University Press. Dr. Fisher began by outlining the main points of his talk and then went on to provide details of what he has learned about the history of the enslavement of Native Americans.
