Providence College Professor Keith Morton and God, War and Providence author James Warren led a small group invited to join a walk to Margaret’s Cave where Roger Williams is said to have been sheltered in the winter of 1636. Click here for a 54-minute video of the walk.

Author James Warren talks with Baptist Church historian Rev. Charles Hartman while East Providence Historical Society Co-Chair Nancy Moore talks with Providence College Professor Doug Blum prior to the walk.

The group, including Warren Conservation Land Trust member Rock Singewald, heads off from Professor Morton’s property into the nearby woods where Margaret’s Cave is located.

Rev. Hartman asks Keith Warren several questions about the history of the location and its use by indigenous tribes as Rehoboth Historical Commission Member Mark Canuel and Chair Sharon Beskid, and author James Warren listen.

The group gathers in front of the Cave at the end of the walk to talk about the use and conservation of the surrounding land before Keith thanks James for sharing his perspective on 17th century Rhode Island history.
