Volunteers help to clear a trail through newly acquired trust property along the Palmer River

The Warren Land Conservation Trust recently acquired approximately sixty acres land on the eastern shore of the Palmer River that will be permanently in conservation for all to enjoy. The land has been undeveloped over the past 365 years since the Town of Warren was acquired from the Massasoit Osamequin of the Pokanoket Tribe who had occupied the land for the past 10,000 years.

A team of five volunteers, including Ed McAloon, Dave Peterson, Jenny Flanagan, Mike Gerhardt and Dave Weed met behind the former FedEx building on New Industrial Way behind the Palmer River Grille on Market St in Warren, RI.

Jenny and Dave gather the tools and lumber needed to install one of the walkways over the wet parts of the trail that leads to the Palmer River.

Jenny reaches the end of a trail that the group had finished clearing that leads to a spot that overlooks Tom’s Island at low tide on the Palmer River.

The area is one of the most scenic spots along the River that reveals marsh land that has remained essentially untouched over the past 350 years.
