This virtual Lunch & Learn series aligns with the Museum’s educational theme, “Revolution: Asserting Sovereignty, in recognition of the United States’ 250th Semiquincentennial.”

Throughout this ongoing series, a wide range of topics will be explored to deepen awareness of Indigenous history, culture, and current issues, while highlighting the vital work being done to preserve and revitalize traditional knowledge and lifeways.

The revolutionary resistance in the “stealing of America” involved a multifaceted struggle against colonial expansion, Indigenous enslavement, and land dispossession. Native nations fought for sovereignty, while enslaved people used active and passive resistance, with nearly 600,000 Indigenous people enslaved alongside African captives, shaping a, hidden history of resistance.
