Pocahontas: The American Indian Princess Who Risked Her Life

The story of the American Indian princess who risked her life to save English explorer John Smith goes beyond the myths we learned in childhood to chronicle the real story of Pocahontas, a Native-American stateswoman who dreamed of peaceful coexistence with the European settlers. (Above) Author and Historian Stephen Bankler-Jukes starts the story of how Pocahontas saved the life of John Smith in the Virginia Colony in 1607 and became a celebrity in England after marrying John Rolfe.

(Above) Captain John Smith had a close relationship with Pocahontas in Virginia before he returned to England. Later, she met up with him again in London before her untimely death at the age of 21.
