Places & Spaces in the Old Colony: Old Bay Road

The public was invited to take a historical journey with the Old Colony History Museum, Norton Historical Society, and Easton Historical Society & Museum down Bay Road in Eastern Massachusetts starting with the earliest waypoint at Taunton Green, and proceeding through Norton and Easton. Click here for the 68-minute video of the presentation that aired on Zoom on March 20, 2025.

In a virtual presentation, these three organizations shared the origins of the route, recognizable landmarks, famous travelers along the way, and how the road has changed over the last 400 years.

Included in the Taunton segment narrated by Joe Blansfield were paintings of the first English houses, Jesse Smith’s stagecoach stop, and a mile marker found along Bay Road.

In the Norton segment, narrated by Dennis Butman, the site of William Weherall‘s house built in 1669 and King Philip’s Cave off Plain Street (click for description) are included. In the Easton segment, narrated by Jonathan Cole, the 1717 Josiah Keith House, the oldest in Easton, is described.
