Click here for a 70-minute Zoom recording of a presentation on King Philip’s War that he gave to members of the Lifelong Learning Collaborative on October 8, 2025.

The discussion covered the historical context of the 17th century conflict between English settlers and Native American tribes in New England, including the impact of infectious diseases, treaties, and early interactions between the two groups.

Weed described the conditions that led to the War, the precipitating event of Sassamon’s murder, and the outbreak of the War in today’s Warren, RI.

The lecture concluded with an overview of the war’s events, the death of Philip, and the War’s devastating effects on both sides, and ongoing efforts to preserve Pokanoket Tribal history and culture in the region.
