Conspiracy Island is a privately owned tidal island situated in the Assonet River off Berkley, Massachusetts. The island may have received its name from its connection to King Philip, for whom the King Philip’s War is named. The legend is that, in 1675 on Conspiracy Island, King Phillip formed his confederacy to launch the War in June, 1675. Click here for a one-minute video of the Island.

The Island can be reached at the end of Bayview Avenue past Dighton Rock State Park in Berkley. In very low tides, the island is actually a peninsula, accessible across a sandy stretch of land connecting it to a nearby beach.

The Island has a total area of 0.25 acres (1,000 square meters). It is covered by grass with a few small juniper trees.

Today, the Island is populated by invasive species of Canada geese and mute swans, species that weren’t here in 1675, though the large boulder on the Island may have been here when Philip visited.
