Museum educator John Maass offered a virtual presentation on January 29, 2025 on the long history of the country’s earliest conflicts entitled “America’s Colonial Wars: An Overview”. From warfare between the settlers and American Indians as far back as the early 17th century in Virginia and New England, to colonial involvement in the European dynastic struggles of the 1700s in eastern North America, Dr. Maass outlines 150 years of warfare in America prior to the Revolutionary War. Dr. Maass, who is the author of several books and numerous articles on early U.S. military history, began with a description of the early and 18th century Indian Wars.

He then described other outbreaks, such as Bacon’s Rebellion before talking about the French and Indian Wars and King William’s War of 1689-97.

Before concluding, he covered Queen Anne’s War and the Raid on Deerfield in the early 18th century that is depicted on several maps.
