Steering Committee members representing Bristol, East Providence, Providence and Warren met at the Barrington Public Library on October 30,2018 to summarize progress to-date on the Sowams Heritage Area Project. Project Coordinator Dave Weed began with a review of the October 9th Project Launch and summarized activity since that time to distribute over 2,000 brochures throughout the eight communities and to speak about the Project in Bristol, East Providence, and Swansea. Carl Ferreira brought everyone up-to-date on connections with the Pokanoket Tribe, Keith Morton added information about other potential tribal connections in Providence, and Nancy Moore talked about the upcoming 375th Anniversary of the Founding of Newman Congregational Church. Dave concluded the meeting by outlining plans to begin a draft Interpretation Plan and a proposal to develop eight interpretive signs to be placed throughout the Sowams area.The next quarterly meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on January 29, 2019, also at the Barrington Library.
