The Pokanoket Tribe was invited by the ENRICHri Home Schoolers Group to present their history and heritage to parents and children on April 12, 2019 at the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club. Sagamore Po Wauipi Neimpaug (William Guy) told the children about the Tribe’s history and many of the Tribal leaders, including the Massasoit Osamequin and his son, Metacomet, from whom he’s descended. Deborah “Running Deer” Afdasta, who organized the program, then led the children and parents in a friendship dance to the sound of the traditional Tribal drum and songs before Two Deers offered a blanket dance and a strawberry story. The program ended with a chance for the children to look over some of the artifacts that the Tribe brought with them.
