Members of the Pokanoket Tribe, invited by the Barrington Interfaith Partners. presented their history and traditions at the Barrington United Congregational Church on March 21, 2019. Trinki Brueckner of the Interfaith Partners welcomed Sagamore Po Wauipi Neimpaug (William Guy) who began by describing the Pokanoket Tribe, the largest aboriginal nation in northeastern North America when the first colonizers arrived in the 16th and 17th century. Harry “The Hawk” Edmonds offered a sacred tobacco prayer in both the Abenaki languiage and in English before men from the tribe play their sacred tribal drum and the two led dances with the audience. Sachem, Po Pummukaonk Anoggs (Tracy “Dancing Star” Brown”) told a traditional story before she and the Sagamore took questions from the audience.
